Our client is an industry leader and a well-known organization providing exceptional service within our region. We are looking for an experienced and energetic Assistant Controller to join their team in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Reporting to the Controller, the Assistant Controller is responsible for the accurate and timely financial information and financial reporting. The Assistant Controller will be someone who thrives in a results-driven, fast-paced environment where they can work collaboratively with all team members.

The Assistant Controller will be responsible for:
External and internal financial reporting, and providing oversight and review to ensure completeness and accuracy
Performing consolidations and complex and confidential accounting
Reviewing results and investigating, following up on variances, and providing detailed analysis
Communicating and coordinating with other departments to ensure financial reporting deadlines are met and planning and co-ordinating monthly, quarterly, and year end timelines
Working with and supporting operations and other corporate leads to interpret information and operational events from a financial perspective and flagging potential issues. Responding to questions and initiating actions for continuous improvement of the financial processes
Managing and assisting with the annual audit and budgeting process to ensure financial targets and operational goals are met
Championing the use of resources and new technology to drive operational efficiencies and adoption of best practices
Managing a small team of accountants

The ideal candidate will have:
Current CPA designation
Minimum of 4 years of professional accounting experience concentrated in financial reporting
Proficient use of Microsoft Excel
Exceptional communication skills coupled with the understanding of the importance of a customer focused environment
Able to build trusted partnerships
