Job Description

Calgary Communities Against Sexual Abuse (CCASA) is the primary sexual violence service provider for Calgary and surrounding areas. CCASA is seeking a full-time Sexual Violence Educator to join our Education and Training team. This individual will provide education to elementary school aged children, teachers and parents on child sexual abuse through the Who Do You Tell? Program, other parent and adult focused curriculum, and youth (aged 13-24) educational programming. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to work in upstream primary education, making a significant difference in the lives of children, youth and families, and as part of the larger dynamic CCASA Education team. Educators also provide support, crisis intervention and advocacy to individuals who have experienced or have been impacted by sexual abuse/assault through the CCASA Support and Information Line, as well as the Calgary Sexual Assault Response Team.

Responsibilities of the Sexual Violence Educator include:

  • Delivery and facilitation of CCASAs Who Do You Tell? (child sexual abuse education) Program, including parent information evenings, teacher in-services, student presentations etc. as well as youth and adult education presentations and programs
  • Responding to disclosures of abuse/assault in a professional, supportive manner, including assessing for risk and reporting to Child and Family Service authorities when required
  • Working collaboratively with schools and management of those relationships
  • Providing crisis support, (safety planning and risk assessments) information, advocacy and referrals to children and families
  • Participating in creative and effective outreach and program development activities
  • Representing CCASA at community events, and collaborate committees in a positive manner

Qualifications of the successful applicant must include:

  • A degree or diploma in social/human services and 1-2 years experience
  • Possess an anti-oppressive/feminist analysis of sexual violence
  • Comfort and passion for working with children and youth
  • An understanding and comfort with issues related to sexual violence
  • Strong public speaking, facilitation and community development skills
  • Crisis intervention and assessment skills
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing demands and client groups
  • Ability to work autonomously, meet deadlines, take initiative, have strong self-reflection and interpersonal skills
  • Thrives in a collaborative environment internally and externally

**Successful applicant will be required to work some evenings and weekends. As this position entails working in various locations throughout Calgary and surrounding areas, access to a reliable vehicle is necessary.
