Job Description

(Commencing Immediately Until July 31st, 2019 with Possible Extension)Open to the PublicThe Youth Counsellor will work as a member of the Addiction Clinical Services Team, offering education, support and early intervention programs to youth and families affected by substance abuse, and will report to the Clinical Services Team Supervisor. Duties will include: - co-ordination and facilitation of the CAST Clinical Services at the senior and junior school in West Prince;- provide consultation to schools in West Prince with youth identified as harmfully involved with substance abuse;- provide education and support to parent(s), children and communities affected by substance use;- provide therapeutic counselling;- offer public presentations to increase awareness and prevention of substance misuse;- participate in ongoing outcome evaluation components of all programs offered;- serve as a resource to community development initiatives surrounding youth;- may represent the West Prince Region on provincial committees and follow provincial standards for substance abuse youth programs;- participate in Multi Agency and Service Team meetings as required;- participate in training;- maintain required documentation and reports; and,- other related duties.Bi-Weekly Hours: 75.0 hours bi-weekly / Monday to Friday / some evening and weekend work may be required
Minimum Qualifications: - Applicants must have a degree in Psychology, Social Work or a related discipline- Applicants must possess a solid foundation of addiction treatment theory and the recovery process. - Previous experience in counselling (individual and or group - Process excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills;- A good previous work and attendance record.Other Qualifications: - Certification in Addictions Counselling would be considered an asset;- Experience in facilitating education groups would be considered an asset;- Knowledge/training/experience in working with clients with problem gambling would be considered an asset;- Training in ISM and CPR would be considered assets.- Additional relevant education and experience would be considered an asset.- The successful applicant must provide a satisfactory criminal records check prior to beginning employment.Applicants are expected to complete the full length of this assignment unless appointed to a permanent position.Please Note: Please ensure the application clearly demonstrates how you meet the noted qualifications as applicants will be screened based on the information provided.
