Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) is inviting applications for the casual position of Summer Inclusion Support Staff in Parks and Recreation. HRM encourages applicants to self-identify. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Summer Inclusion Support Staff supports persons with disabilities in recreation programs (i.e. personal care, lifting procedures, adapting activities, administering medications, etc). May be required to develop specific program plans. Responsible for daily duties such as greeting children, speaking to parents/guardians and ensuring open communication on the needs of the children. Also responsible for organizing supplies and equipment, preparing daily activities, attending staff meetings, and ensuring the safety of all program participants. Ensures children with disabilities are welcomed and included in all day camp activities.
QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience:
Experience working with individuals with special needs Currently enrolled in a health care, or human service program at college or university Knowledge and understanding of Healthy Child Development Previous experience working with preschoolers/children/youth in a recreational setting an asset Technical / Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities:
Current certification in Emergency First Aid and Level C CPR an asset
Successful completion of all training requirements (Including High Five and WHMIS) prior to start date
Screening through the Child Abuse Registry and a Police Records Check Security Clearance Requirements:
Applicants may be required to complete an employment security screening check.
Please note Testing may be conducted as a component of the selection process to assess technical and job specific knowledge. Candidates, who are selected for testing, may be tested in a group setting, scheduled at the employers discretion. COMPETENCIES:
