Job Description

This is for one full time permanent position.

The Tax Administration Branch is responsible for the enforcement of compliance and audit under the Liquor Tax Act, Tobacco Tax Act, Fuel Oil Tax Act, Insurance Premium Tax Act, and Yukon Government Carbon Price Rebate Act.

The Tax Auditor conducts reviews, audits, investigates and when applicable, prepares prosecutions to ensure that taxpayers comply with various Tax Acts. The position also provides expert advice to tax administration staff over a broad range of tax issues and provides support for tax investigations. We are looking for an individual who is very comfortable working independently in a fast-paced environment. You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, always remaining professional and tactful in difficult situations.

Essential Qualifications
Please submit your resume clearly demonstrating how you meet the following qualifications. Please note selection for further consideration will be based solely on the information you provide in your resume.

Degree in Economics or Commerce and Accounting Designation (CPA) or within 1 year of completion of designation
Experience in the use of computer software for data collection and analysis
Experience in preparing audit or investigation reports, preparing reports for senior management, and preparing technical analysis
Experience in generally accepted accounting and auditing principles as well as investigative techniques and standards.

Candidates who have education and experience equivalent to the essential qualifications may be equally considered.

Desired Knowledge, Skills and Suitability

Candidates should have and may be assessed on:
Ability to interpret and apply tax legislation
Ability to communicate verbally and in writing, concisely, effectively and professionally
Ability to maintain a professional and restrained manner, and to deal tactfully with difficult taxpayers
Have an understanding of the rules of evidence and some knowledge of court procedures and confidential requirements.

Additional Information:
Job Requirements: Travel throughout Yukon and other provinces are required.
